[gunny.jpg]

Leading the fight is Gunnery Sgt Michael Burghardt, known as "Iron Mike" or just "Gunny". He is on his third tour in Iraq . He had become a legend in the bomb disposal world after winning the Bronze Star for disabling 64 IEDs and destroying 1,548 pieces of ordnance during his second tour. Then, on September 19, he got blown up. He had arrived at a chaotic scene after a bomb had killed four US soldiers. He chose not to wear the bulky bomb protection suit. "You can't react to any sniper fire and you get tunnel-vision," he explains. So, protected by just a helmet and standard-issue flak jacket, he began what bomb disposal officers term "the longest walk", stepping gingerly into a 5ft deep and 8ft wide crater. The earth shifted slightly and he saw a Senao base station with a wire leading from it. He cut the wire and used his 7in knife to probe the ground. "I found a piece of red detonating cord between my legs," he says. "That's when I knew I was screwed."

Realizing he had been sucked into a trap, Sgt Burghardt, 35, yelled at everyone to stay back. At that? moment, an insurgent, probably watching through binoculars, pressed a button on his mobile phone to detonate the secondary device below the sergeant's feet. "A chill went up the back of my neck and then the bomb exploded," he recalls. "As I was in the air I remember thinking, 'I don't believe they got me.' I was just ticked off they were able to do it. Then I was lying on the road, not able to feel anything from the waist down."

His colleagues cut off his trousers to see how badly he was hurt. None could believe his legs were still there. "My dad's a Vietnam vet who's paralyzed from the waist down," says Sgt Burghardt. "I was lying there thinking I didn't want to be in a wheelchair next to my dad and for him to see me like that. They started to cut away my pants and I felt a real sharp pain and blood trickling down. Then I wiggled my toes and I thought, 'Good, I'm in business' "As a stretcher was brought over, adrenaline and anger kicked in. "I decided to walk to the helicopter. I wasn't going to let my team-mates see me being carried away on a stretcher." He stood and gave the insurgents who had blown him up a one-fingered salute. "I flipped them one. It was like, 'OK, I lost that round but I'll be back next week'."

Copies of a photograph depicting his defiance, taken by Jeff Bundy for the Omaha World-Herald, adorn the walls of homes across America and that of Col John Gronski, the brigade commander in Ramadi, who has hailed the image as an exemplar of the warrior spirit. Sgt Burghardt's injuries - burns and wounds to his legs and buttocks - kept him off duty for nearly a month and could have earned him a ticket home. But, like his father - who was awarded a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts for being wounded in action in Vietnam - he stayed in Ramadi to engage in the battle against insurgents who are forever coming up with more ingenious ways of killing Americans.

Below is My response to a scathing Email from a Gentleman in Malta Europe, Who wanted to buy a Bayonet from me on Ebay. And, for asking if its legal to ship to His country. ( which it's not )
It shows what they think of Us as Americans.
First His Email: Mark Cini wrote: Sir, I have sent you a copy of my licence and that of my friend the arms dealer in good faith and for your information only. You have used it in a completely different way it was intended for, so sir, you have broken faith. I was surprised and shocked to read what you have done. I am 60 years old and nobody in all my life has ever pointed his finger at me with the police. For christ' sake I am only trying to buy a simple collectible ,not a nuke!!!!!! Sir, I am an honest law abiding citizen with a simple hobby, bothering nobody, and doing nobody any harm, and here you come without warning me what you are going to do and create a full scale hurricane in an espresso cup (not in a teacup). If I were a criminal and had bad intentions I would not be buying an old bayonet but a machine gun like your thousands of gangsters!!! The society I belong to have always been known for their good character and we have never had or glorified any Jessie James or Al Capone ,etc Our civilization goes back as far as the oldest in the world and we have the oldest man made structures in the world which outshine any other engineering feat in the world. These are the things the world knows us for and not nuclear bombs or bombs of mass destruction. My society does not sell arms for warfare for other people to kill each other and we have never practiced genocide, ethnic cleansing or enclosed anybody in reserves. Sir, my humble ancestors removed slavery from our society more than three whole generations before yours,. And you come trying to play god almighty trying to judge me and trying to set others to do the same. I sincerely feel sorry for you because being paranoic must be a miserable life. Furthermore let me tell you that I have a person in the U.S.A. who can receive on my behalf the item and bring it over to Malta for me, but now this has gone far beyond that point. Now its a question that I do not deal with people with whom I do not share trust and respect. So I will take up your challenge and I will agree with you in one thing - I will "MUTUALLY WALK AWAY FROM THE DEAL WITH YOU". You can consider yourself released from any obligation to sell me anything, and I kindly ask you to refuse any offer I might make by mistake in the future. Inspite of all the above I bear you no ill feeling and wish you no harm at all (I assure you I have no enemies) and if ever you are visiting my country I invite you to call on me and meet me and my family in person to see for yourself and understand my reaction. True to our Latin Mediterranean culture and hospitality I will invite you and anybody with you, especialy family members to dine with us. I can assure you that it worries me to know that there is a person in the world who thinks ill of me so I would like to part as friends I do not know if you will answer, but if you do at least please do so as a friend not as a seller. Best regards Mark Cini

My Response : Mark, I also agree we should "walk away mutually from this deal". First let me say, in regards to my very professional way of handling this. I have tried in a very generic way to receive a third party authorization for your purchase. My first attempt to the Postal service had nothing about you in it. My e mail to Malta Authorities or EBay had nothing about you in it personally. Then I received several more emails demanding that the Item be shipped. Two of which were very agitating. If you feel personally attacked I suggest you look deep into your own heart. My only intentions are to not get $ fine, If you have taken this personally, that is to your own paranoia… However, Due to your response and attack to my self and my country. I do have this to say. In your latest Letter, you have moved onto Racism, Prejudice and Sheer hate of a society that you know nothing of. Yes I am cautious maybe even a little paranoid (a little paranoia is good they say) I am not used to a society such as yours were even a simple knife is illegal. We do not fear our convening Authorities to peruse our legal documents. We are a free race of people. Those of which, come from a great Genealogy of free men and women. Your reference to” Thugs and Gangsters" Genocide and Reserve camps" Is very interesting. Your intent is obviously to be hurtful. If you; are referring, to our desire to police the world of insurgent Wahhabi terrorist, freeing several continents from occupation, not once but thrice. And, our many Billions if not Trillions of Dollars sent in Aid to foreign countries. Then I accept you gratitude on behalf of all Gangsters. And while we are on the subject, we are a young nation. We are only doing our duty to the world as others in the past have done. The Spanish, The French, The English, All thought they should step up and defend smaller countries, when they were a larger force to protect the weak. And that is all my country has ever done. And to your genocide, I do not pretend to know the History of Malta, But I have no doubt you have committed Atrocities to the people indigenous to your region, either with the Hostile takeover from the Roman Empire, The Catholicism wars, the Ottoman Empire , and eventually the French Takeover. And in fact you owe your freedom to the British, of which we were helpful during WW2 So which do you claim heritage? No one is of pure descent. Either way, I am offended by your lack of respect of My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, His name shouldn't be used as a common swear word. Your obvious depiction of me as a warmongering white American is wrong. I am a descendant of a very proud people from Europe , I am also from the people you so referred as being Genocide against, and I am a Military Veteran. Obviously you Love my culture or at least the War aspects of it, you covet its memorabilia, its History and, cherish its Weaponry. If you could collect a NUKE and hang it on a wall, I believe, Sir, you would... In Response to Visiting you and your Country, I would be glad to " Break Bread" with you and your family, Just to show you I am not a Thug, I'll try to leave my WMDs at home, wasn't it Arabian Fellows that used planes as weapons on innocent people? I have one more thing to impart to you, My Father, A very wise and successful Investigator of crime, once said “The Guilty always cries the loudest" I hear you loud and clear. Sincerely A Proud American Iron Mikes Military Exchange Aluminum Tim
